Info for Coaches and Managers

Coaching and Managing a team may seem a bit daunting at first but don’t worry we’ve got you covered!

Our junior league U6-U12 plays under the Central Region Junior Football Association (CRJFA).

ALL coaches need to become familiar with the rules and guidelines of the association.

  • We ask that our player, parents, coaches and volunteers help to support, facilitate and model our code of conduct:

    We are respectful. We play fair. We try our hardest. We have fun.

    TIPS ON HOW TO FACILITATE THE CODE:

    Introduce the code of conduct EARLY and continue to reiterate it through the season - make a point of highlighting players that are demonstrating it!

    Make training FUN and have fun yourself!… Use the supplied training activity guides for a clear, fast paced structure that will guarantee fun! Hint: Avoid kids lining up for ages - they need a ball at their feet and to be moving for most of training.

    Present an Awesome Award after each game. Let the team know which area of the Code the player is receiving it for. All players should receive this award sometime during the season.

    The Player Code of Conduct can be found HERE

    The Volunteer Code of Conduct can be found HERE

  • Coaches should communicate to player parents/guardians via a Team WHATSAP or FB Messenger group. .

    If you need help setting up your Team’s group, just ask us for help.

  • All coaches will be provided with a gameday bag which will contain:

    • whistle

    • timer

    • first aid kit

    • clipboard

    • goalie top/gloves

    • pump

    • wipes

    • incident report form

    • awesome award (hat)

    The boys changes rooms has the team ball bags, cones, bibs, foldup goals and other equipment. Please try to keep your gear neat and tidy in the one space - train your team early what goes where so they can help.

  • 1. Encourage participants to keep the ball safely on the ground during activities and promote positive behaviours.

    2. Ensure players are directly supervised at all times;

    3. Ensure that the playing area is free of hazards and is a safe distance away from walls and fixed objects;

    4. Remind players to look out for others and to look ahead in tagging games;

    5. Ensure there is a safe distance between groups of players;

    6. Ensure all equipment is appropriate, safe and working correctly;

    7. Most acts of contact or misconduct at this level are caused by lack of coordination, with no intent. In these cases try and give the advantage to the attacking team and continue play; and

    8. Stop the activity if you observe dangerous play and explain what is appropriate and expected.

  • Within each team/age group we aim to have at a minimum a coach and an assistant trainer at each session. The role of the coach is to run/design the trainings (based off the activity guides provided below), the assistant trainer is there to support the coach, run trainings when the coach is unavailable, and referee on game days.

    IF you can’t make it to training or game day please let the other person know - if neither of you can make it please contact the committee.

  • Training:

    Please arrive prior to 3.30pm to assist your team to set up your space. At the end of training this will need to be packed down.

    Game Day:

    Please arrive early for home games to help set up goals/pitches. Following the game you will also need to pack these away if you are the last scheduled game on that pitch.

    Remember to get your team to help!

  • All adults participating with the club in any capacity need to have an up-to-date WWVP registration and they need to be registered with Football Tasmania.

    Don’t have a WWVP card? You can apply for one HERE.

    Please make sure to update the employment details in your Volunteer registration to include Woodbridge Soccer Club as an employer.

Team Roles

It takes a village to run a community football club and we appreciate all the work of the many volunteers of the WFC - without whom this club wouldn’t exist!

Three key roles for each team are as follows:

  • The role of the coach is to design and run the trainings.

    For Rules and Coaching info SEE HERE

    The Coach Role Description can be found HERE.

  • The assistant coach is there to support the coach during trainings and on game day. They should also be prepared to run trainings when the coach is unavailable, and referee on game days.

    Coaches from U9+ should not be refereeing their own team.

    Assistant Coaches please refer to the Coach Role Description HERE

  • Team Manager

    The Team manager is the guru of the team, and they help make the coach’s and parents job easier. They:

    Setup the team communications (messenger or What’s app)

    Manage the team on game day including parents (eg. setting up a space for players to wait as subs, keeping parents/equipment/kids away from the sidelines).

    Make sure the team canteen spots are filled by team parents evenly

    And, organise the orange roster!

    Team managers can choose to take on an assistant coach or referee role also.
